How do I take, send, and receive pictures?
Taking pictures
You can take pictures via the Camera app on your phone.
1. On the Menu, under the “Shortcuts” section, you will see an “Open Camera” button. Tap that to now open the Camera.
Note: If you can't see the "Camera" shortcut, and want to add it to your shortcut menu, go to the questions: "How to add an app".
2. Tap the large white circle at the bottom of the screen to take a picture.
Sending pictures
The easiest way to send pictures is via WhatsApp.
1. If you don’t have it installed or set up, follow the guide here to do so.
2. Tap the name of the person who you want to send an image to.
3. Tap the small paperclip icon button on the bottom right hand side of the screen.
4. Then tap “Gallery” for an existing picture, or “Camera”, to take a new one.
5. Your images will then become visible here, and you can tap them to select them. Once you have selected an image, a small arrow will appear in the bottom right hand side of the screen, which is the “Send” button.
6. Once you press that, the image(s) you have selected will be sent to the person.
Receiving pictures
The easiest way to receive pictures is via WhatsApp.
1. If you don’t have it installed or set up, follow the guide here to do so.
2. Tap the name of the person who has sent you a picture. If they have sent it recently, they should be on the screen, but you might have to scroll down for older messages on WhatsApp.
3. You can tap on the image to make it full screen from the chat.
4. Tap the three dots on the top right hand corner for more options. Here you’ll be able to tap “Save” to save the image to your phone.
How do I take, send, and receive videos?
Taking videos
You can take videos via the Camera app on your phone.
1. On the Menu, under the “Shortcuts” section, you will see an “Open Camera” button. Tap that to now open the Camera.
2. At the bottom of the screen, there will be a button which says “VIDEO”. Tap this and the white circle should turn red.
3. You will now be able to record a video. Tap the red circle to begin recording and it will turn into a red square.
Sending videos
1. The easiest way to send pictures is via WhatsApp.
2. If you don’t have it installed or set up, follow the guide here to do so.
3. Tap the name of the person who you want to send an image to.
4. Then tap “Gallery” for an existing picture, or “Camera”, to take a new one.
5. Your videos will then become visible here, and you can tap them to select them. Once you have selected an image, a small arrow will appear in the bottom right hand side of the screen, which is the “Send” button.
6. There will then appear a small arrow in the bottom right hand side of the screen, which is the “Send” button. Once you press that, the video(s) you have selected will be sent to the person.
Receiving videos
The easiest way to receive videos is via WhatsApp.
1. If you don’t have it installed or set up, follow the guide here to do so.
2. Tap the name of the person who has sent you a video. If they have sent it recently, they should be on the screen, but you might have to scroll down for older messages on WhatsApp.
3. Tap on the message to make it full screen from the chat and tap the play button on the message to play / pause the video.
4. To save the video, tap on the three dots in the top right hand corner of the screen. Then tap "save"
How do I make and receive video calls?
The easiest way to make and receive video calls is also via WhatsApp. If you don’t have it installed or set up, follow the guide here to do so.
1. Tap the name of the person who you would like to call, and in the top right hand corner of the screen, you will see a video camera icon and a phone icon.
2. Tap the video camera icon to begin a video call.
How do I add and use Whatsapp?
1. On the main Menu, tap “Add Apps”.
2. Then tap “Open Google Play”.
3. Sign in to your Google account. If you don’t have a Google account, you’ll need to create one to download apps.
4. Type in “WhatsApp” in the search bar at the top of the screen.
5. Tap the “Install” button next to the app.
6. To open it from the main Menu, scroll down to the Shortcuts section and tap “Open WhatsApp”.
Note: All apps you install are automatically added to the “Shortcuts” section of the main Menu.
7. You will then need to enter your phone number to set up your WhatsApp account. Follow the instructions on the screen to set up your account.
8. Once you are set up, tap the green + in the bottom right corner of the screen to find a contact on WhatsApp and send them a message.
How do I access online banking?
Online banking is done via apps which you can download from the Google Play Store.
1. On the main Menu, tap “Add Apps”.
2. Then tap “Open Google Play”.
3. Sign in to your Google account. If you don’t have a Google account, you’ll need to create one to download apps.
4. Search for the name of your bank in the search bar at the top of the screen. If they have an app for Online Banking, it will appear here.
Some banks which do are: Santander, Barclays, Natwest, Nationwide, Lloyds.
5. Tap the “Install” button next to the app you want to install.
6. To open it from the main Menu, scroll down to the Shortcuts section and tap “Open (Name of Banking App)”.
7. Follow the setup process in the app to connect your bank account. For this, you will need some of your banking details, including your card details, and any passwords/account numbers you have set.
8. Once you have managed to log into your Online Banking, you will be able to make payments, view your account balance and some banks will let you manage your card via the app. This involves viewing the PIN if you have forgotten it, or re-ordering a new card if yours is lost.
How do I add and use the NHS app?
1. On the main Menu, tap “Add Apps”.
2. Then tap “Open Google Play”
3. Sign in to your Google account. If you don’t have a Google account, you’ll need to create one to download apps.
4. Type in “NHS” in the search bar at the top of the screen.
5. Tap the “Install” button next to the app.
6. To open it from the main Menu, scroll down to the Shortcuts section and tap “Open NHS app”.
Note: All apps you install are automatically added to the “Shortcuts” section of the main Menu.
7. Tap “Continue”.
8. Scroll down to enter your email address. This will either allow you to set up a new account, or access your existing NHS account.
How do I use Google Maps?
1. Tap “Add Apps” under the “Other” section on the Menu.
2. Scroll down, and you will see “Google Maps” as an app which is already installed on your device.
3. Tap the button which says “Hide” and it should turn green and say “Show”. This means the app will now be added to your shortcuts on the Menu.
4. Go back to the Menu and you will see a button which will say “Open Google Maps” in the “Shortcuts” section. Tap that to now open Google Maps.
5. Tap the search bar at the top of the screen, and begin typing to search for a location.
6. Tap on the option which matches the location which you are looking for. If there are many options, look for a matching postcode, city or street name. Google Maps will often show you options which are closest to your current location.
7. The location will then appear on the maps, and you can tap the “Directions” button to view instructions on how to get there.
8. Tap “Start” if you would like the app to help you along the journey as you travel live. It will provide notifications for walking and driving routes e.g. when you need to turn.
How do I add and use Facebook?
1. On the main Menu, tap “Add Apps”.
2. Then tap “Open Google Play”.
3. Sign in to your Google account. If you don’t have a Google account, you’ll need to create one to download apps.
4. Type in “Facebook” in the search bar at the top of the screen.
5. Tap the “Install” button next to the app.
6. To open it from the main Menu, scroll down to the Shortcuts section and tap “Open Facebook”.
Note: All apps you install are automatically added to the “Shortcuts” section of the main Menu.
7. Follow the setup instructions on the screen to make an account, or sign into an existing account.
How do I add and use YouTube?
1. Tap “Add Apps” under the “Other” section on the Menu.
2. Scroll down, and you will see “YouTube” as an app which is already installed on your device. Tap the button which says “Hide” and it should turn green and say “Show”. This means the app will now be added to your shortcuts on the Menu.
3. Go back to the Menu and you will see a button which will say “Open Youtube” under the “Shortcuts” section. Tap that to now open Youtube.
4. Tap the search bar at the top of the screen, and begin typing to search for a video.
5. The list of results will then appear on the screen once you tap the search icon. Tap on the video of your choice to play it.
6. There will be a small rectangle on the bottom right of the video. Tap this to make the video full screen. Tap anywhere on the video to play/pause it.
